Blueberry Bliss Mocktail with Kiss of Cinnamon and Kick of High Phenolic EVOO

Blueberry Bliss Mocktail with Kiss of Cinnamon and Kick of High Phenolic EVOO

Late May and the Black Mulberries are fat and juicy. The tree is full of blackbirds singing a most joyful song of plenty. I'm in the garden at the house on Aegina Island off the mainland of Greece. The sun isn't too warm yet, but the berries are ripening,  dropping to the ground with the plopping sound of heavy raindrops.

This was my inspiration to create a mocktail or smoothie with these robust early fruits. But, the season is short and the birds get most of them. Sooo blueberries are the next best thing to enjoy this yummy smoothie featuring the "phenolic effect" throughout the year!

This vibrant mocktail packs a punch of antioxidants from blueberries and high phenolic EVOO, balanced by the creamy yogurt and soupçon of cinnamon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (Greek yogurt works well too)
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or to taste)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • 1-2 teaspoons Aristoleo+ PowerShot High Phenolic EVOO (added after blending)
  • Fresh mint or basil sprig, for garnish

Drizzle Aristoleo+ PowerShot or spritz Aristoleo+ MicroDosing after blending to prevent hydrogenation and preserve its health benefits.

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine the blueberries, yogurt, water, honey, and cinnamon. Blend until smooth and well combined.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness with additional honey if desired.
  3. Pour into chilled glasses and garnish with a mint or basil sprig.
  4. Now - add the High Phenolic EVOO for the final healthful boost of polyphenols.

Why Blueberries?

While black mulberries are indeed unique with their high chromosome count, blueberries can be had fresh or frozen year 'round.

  • Blueberries: Well-known source of polyphenols, including anthocyanins. These contribute to the vibrant color of the fruit and offer various health benefits.
  • Cinnamon: Prized for its many health benefits for millennia. Anitoxidant and anti-inflammatory along with blood sugar regulating properties.
  • Honey: So many antioxidant benefits in honey - make sure you get pure honey - no syrup added. Hint: an air bubble is slow to rise when you tip the jar.
  • High Phenolic EVOO: The star of the show! This EVOO is loaded with health-promoting phenolic compounds, primarily various types of antioxidants. These antioxidants may help reduce inflammation, improve heart health, protect against certain cancers, and even offer some cognitive benefits.

    Aristoleo+?
Just 1 ml will give you your phenolic boost!

Tips:

  • If you prefer a thicker drink, use less water.
  • For a thinner drink, add more water or a splash of club soda.
  • Want a tart twist? Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
  • Freeze some blueberries beforehand for a thicker, colder drink.
  • Experiment with other garnishes like lemon balm or a sprinkle of granola.
  • For a creamier version, use vanilla yogurt.
